Abstract

Distribution and abundance of Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis) influenced by vegetation as their habitat. The study about vegetation profile of Komodo dragon’s habitat in Riung and Ontoloe Island in East Nusa Tenggara is a new. Riung’s location is in Big Island or Flores and Ontoloe as Small Island. They are dominated by karst ecosystem. Riung have Wolo Tado and Riung as Cagar Alam (CA). But Ontoloe Island include in Taman Wisata Alam Laut (TWAL) 17 Pulau since 1992. The purposes are to study about verrtical and horizontal diagrame of vegetation profil in Big Island and Small Island. We use plot quadrat with transect. Plot in mangrove ecosystem, ecotone and legong were 20m x 20m with replication 4 times. In sabana woodland, plot was 100m x 100m because the trees were rare, replication 4 times. Vegetation profile drawn from representative datas. The result that in Big and Small Island had some types of ecosystem: mangrove, ecotone and hills. Profile of forest starts form 0,03 – 10m, vertically with first. Heteropogon concortus sustains in Riung and Ontoloe then will support herbivore as Komodo dragon’s prey. Trees and sapling become canopy for herbivores. This study will inform and support people’s knowing and conservation acts in Komodo dragon’s habitat.
